When you'd use it

At the end of service to settle a table, and, for booked groups, to let each guest pay their share of a pre-order.

How it behaves

In venue, a member of staff settles the bill by taking payment on the order at a Square Terminal. A single payment can be made up of more than one tender, so a guest can put part of the bill on a gift card or loyalty points and the rest on a card, and a tip can be added at checkout.

Splitting a bill between several guests happens when a group orders ahead of a booking. Each guest can be asked to pay their own share before arrival, payments can be partial while some of the group settle, and the order shows how many of the party have paid.

Good to know

  • Splitting between diners is a pre-order feature; at-table settling is taken by the team on the terminal.

  • The closed payment ties back to the guest profile, so spend is captured against the right guest.

  • Refunds are handled by the venue directly.
