A guide for operators
Loyalty thatworks.Here’s how.
Reward what guests spend, skip the app, and give them a reason to return.
- 1Reward spend with points, not a stamp a visit.
- 2Put the card in the phone wallet, with no app.
- 3Let guests redeem at the till, where they pay.
- 4Give members a reason back, then measure who returns.

Loyal, unrewarded.

Four parts.
Works whatever loyalty tool you use.
Points on spend
A stamp a visit treats a flat white and a tab for six the same. Points on spend reward your best guests in proportion, at a rate you set. Stamps can still suit a counter selling one main thing, such as coffee.
Points are earned straight off your till as guests pay, at the rate you set, with nothing for the team to key in. Visits, reviews and Wi-Fi logins can earn points too.
See loyalty and rewardsA card, not an app
Every download is a reason not to join. A card in Apple or Google Wallet takes a tap, and sign-up should ask for the email and the marketing opt-in at the same moment, so the scheme builds a list.
The card sits in Apple or Google Wallet with your logo and colours, with no app to download, and sign-up takes the email and the marketing opt-in in one step.
See loyalty and rewardsRedeem at the till
A reward should come off the bill where the guest pays, in a moment, without a separate tablet or a manager’s override. If redeeming is awkward, the team stops offering it.
A guest cashing in gets a unique code the team applies at the till. On Square, points can become a Square gift card or a Square-linked discount that comes off the bill.
See Stampede on SquareA reason, then measure
A balance alone rarely brings anyone in. Tell members what they are close to, mark their birthday and notice your regulars. Then judge the scheme on repeat visits and spend from members, not on sign-ups.
Points, visits, spend and rewards sit on the same profile as bookings, Wi-Fi and reviews, and reporting shows new and returning guests for every venue.
