Hotel room TVs and casting on guest Wi-Fi
Why smart TVs and casting struggle on guest Wi-Fi, and how to give them their own network instead.

In short: guest Wi-Fi is built for guests' own phones and laptops. Room TVs and casting devices work best on a separate network of their own.

The TV cannot get past the login page
Every device on the guest Wi-Fi has to sign in on your login page before it gets online. Most smart TVs cannot open or fill in a login page, so they never get on.
The fix is a network without the login page for the TVs. On a SnapGuard box, that is a network with Guest Network switched off. Ask support to set one up with you, because changing networks can cut off the devices already on them.
Phones cannot find the TV to cast
On a SnapGuard box, guest networks have Device isolation on by default. It stops devices on that network reaching each other, so a guest's phone cannot see a TV to cast to. Internet and login page access are not affected.
- Choose your venue in the venue switcher, top left (on a phone, tap Menu first).
- Go to Wi-Fi › SnapGuard › Networks.
- Click the guest network's row to open Edit Network.
- Look at Device isolation under Options, then click Cancel.
We do not recommend switching it off on the guest network: every guest's phone and laptop could then reach every other device on it. If you have a casting system, ask its supplier what network it needs, then tell support.
You use your own Wi-Fi kit
Without a SnapGuard box, isolation and firewall rules live in your own router or controller. Ask your IT company to give the TVs their own network, or to allow them through. See connect your own Wi-Fi hardware.
Check it worked
A TV on its own network gets online without a login page, and guests on the guest Wi-Fi still see your login page.
Still stuck?
Email support at agent@stampede.ai with:
- Your venue name.
- Which rooms and TVs are affected, with the TV make.
- Who supplies your casting system, if you have one.
Good to know
- Changing a network's settings can cut off every device on it until they rejoin. See change your Wi-Fi password, network name or speed limit.
- Keep staff kit such as tills and card machines off the guest Wi-Fi too.
- Only Admin, Moderator, Marketing, Reports and IT can see Wi-Fi. See what each team role can see and do.
