Add or replace an access point and keep the login page
What to set when you add or swap an access point, so guests on it still get your Wi-Fi login page.
2 min read · Updated
In short: set the new access point up exactly like your others, with the same guest network. On UniFi, then click Resync access points.
- 01Install the access point
- 02Add it to your controller
- 03Put the guest network on it
- 04Check the login page
With a SnapGuard box
The box sits beside your network, so nothing changes in Stampede. Your IT provider sets the new access point up like the others, so that:
- Its switch port is the same trunk as your other access point ports, with the guest VLAN tagged.
- It broadcasts your open guest network, bridged to the guest VLAN.
- The maker's own portal, splash page or hotspot is off on that network.
See SnapGuard vendor playbooks for each maker's menus.
With UniFi
- Adopt the new access point on your UniFi controller.
- Go to Wi-Fi › Hardware › Overview, with your venue chosen.
- Click Resync access points.
- Check the new access point shows Online. Never synced or Not seen recently means it has not come through yet.
- Under Captive portal by SSID, check your guest network is switched on.
Guests are matched to your venue by the access point they join, so make sure every access point is on the list.
With other Wi-Fi kit
Your IT provider adds the access point to your controller and puts your guest network on it, with the same Stampede values as the rest, such as the Portal URL and Walled Garden. The values are on Wi-Fi › Hardware › Setup.
Check it worked
Stand near the new access point and join the guest Wi-Fi on your phone. Your login page opens.
Still no login page
Email support at agent@stampede.ai with:
- Your venue name.
- The access point's make, model and MAC address.
- Who runs your Wi-Fi controller.
Good to know
- The login page fails in only one part of the venue? See see which devices are on your network.
- Replacing the SnapGuard box itself? See set up a new SnapGuard box.
- Only Admin, Moderator, Marketing, Reports and IT can see Wi-Fi.
