Guests see a security warning on the Wi-Fi login page

What to do when guests see 'connection isn't private', a certificate warning or 'network has security issues' when they join your Wi-Fi.

In short: usually the login page's certificate needs renewing, which support does. If your own kit shows its own page first, your IT provider switches it off.

Every guest sees the warning

Warnings such as "certificate expired" or "your connection isn't private", on every phone, usually mean the certificate behind the login page needs renewing. Support does this for you.

  1. With a SnapGuard box, go to Wi-Fi › SnapGuard › Health, with your venue chosen.
  2. Click Show additional checks and note whether SSL port open says Pass or Fail.
  3. Take a screenshot of the warning on a guest's phone.

Then email support with them (see Still seeing it, below).

A different login page shows first

If guests see a page that is not yours before, or instead of, your login page, your controller's own portal or splash page is switched on for the guest network. It catches guests first and can bring up security warnings, often on Android phones.

Ask your IT provider to switch it off on the guest network. See SnapGuard vendor playbooks for each maker's setting.

Check it worked

On your own phone, join the guest Wi-Fi. Your login page opens with no warning.
