When & What to Send Customers

How often should you email your customers? According to research by Toast 34% of consumers want emails from restaurants a couple of times a month.

To get those two emails in the bag, we’d recommend a newsletter style email to kick-off with a variety of topics, followed by a special offer or promotion email 4 – 9 days after that.

Tying that promotional email back to the newsletter content will be especially effective at converting readers into repeat customers.

However, two emails a month can easily get swallowed up in a busy inbox. Let’s look at what else customers might want by email.

Toast’s research indicated that the most popular topics are promotions/discounts and relevant updates on COVID-19, but after that people want announcements about new menu items and then birthday coupons.

We covered birthday offer emails a few weeks ago – with the right technology this can be super high converting email with minimal effort, via automation.

Menu item announcements are a brilliant opportunity to get creative and experiment with new content formats, such as videos. Likewise, you can increase customer engagement by directing them straight to your social media for more details of your new menu.

Email is an immensely powerful tool to connect with your customers and build a relationship with them that leads to more repeat business.
